1 Free DJ Clinic, 2 Dance Parties and 2 Nights of Country Music!
The end of March is going to be so extremely busy over here at Mama Cutsworth HQ. And it’s an incredible range of things to do, all of which I’m darn excited about. I’ll tell you about them now:
First, this Saturday night (March 24) at the Lo Pub (330 Kennedy St.), my pal DJ J. Jackson is coming out of retirement and we’re having a night of strictly diva dance music! Whitney, Mariah, Janet, Chaka, Beyonce, TLC… watch out! I sure as heck hope to see you at “I Wanna Dance With Somebody!”
Earlier that Saturday, I’m teaching a FREE 2-hour DJ clinic at the Long & McQuade on Stafford, from 2-4 pm. All you have to do is register in advance, email jcharney@long-mcquade.com. If you want to learn the basics about beatmatching, scratching, juggling and how to use Serato Scratch Live, this is your chance.
Then, I’m trying something completely new and exciting: I’ve been rehearsing with beloved western music band, Nathan. Over the course of two nights (March 29 & 30), we’re going to do original Nathan tunes, but in a sort of “live remix” way. You can read about how the idea started by clicking here. You should really come to this; our practices have been a delight! Thanks to John Scoles for asking me to do this!

To cap March off, I’ve been asked to play a funk and soul night at the Rocker (3rd floor, 91 Albert) called “Get on the Goodfoot!” This will also be so incredible. No Top 40! Just raw, dirty funk. DJ Maverick One from Winnipeg and Charly Hustle of Saskatoon will also be spinning the old joints, and I can pretty much guarantee that there will be breakdancing of the highest caliber at some point in the night.
I feel so lucky to have a March like this!
