Wow. What a fantastic night of DJing we had this past weekend at The XX Factor. It was the “recital” of my first-ever class at my new DJ academy for women and trans folks. There were ten students in the class, nine who could make the gig to play their first-ever set in front of a dance floor full of people. Thanks to the West Central Women’s Resource Centre and to Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art (MAWA) for the support in this project. What a success!
Every DJ set was so different: there was Bluegrass, Punk, Hip Hop and Reggae. Each DJ showed off some of her new skills in scratching, beat matching and crowd rocking. I’m so proud.
I can’t wait for the future.
