"La Palucheur:" Emotional, raw, and unapologetically queer theatre

More than a year ago,
director Eric Plamondon sat me down
and asked if I would do sound design for a play he was translating into French.

I told him I’d think about it, but did he know I didn’t speak French?
He said we’d figure it out.

Did he know my theatre experience was in improv, not scripted shows?
That didn’t seem to matter to him.

Eric’s a person who knows what they want and he had his sights set on my joining the team.

So I gave it a go!

Exactly a month ago,
the team met and began with a sweat ceremony, lead by three elders,
one of them the show’s guiding elder, Barbara Bruce.

I am so grateful for that day.
Then we got down to work in the theatre.
Lots of work.

Tonight it blooms for the public.

Congratulations to the team
for making such an intimate show,
balancing that line between
zooming in on a specific relationship
and zooming out to the loss of a generation and the continued loss from HIV/AIDS.

Go see it
November 24–December 9, 2023
at Théâtre Cercle Molière.
